Run in conjunction with The Borthwick Institute for Archives at the University of York. Gain experience and further your knowledge of reading old handwriting and documents whatever the outcome of your studies.
With tuition from Dr Paul Dryburgh, archivist and medieval records expert, read wills and other documents in English from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. We will also look at other important types of records (charters, visitations, parish registers) as well as receiving an introduction to Latin wills.
Workshop sessions will involve group work and individual transcription exercises, taken at a pace that suits you. There will also be some handy hints and tips on how to find out more, and make the most of medieval records.
There will be the chance to view original documents in the searchroom.
