Family and Local History - Love It, Learn It
Confirmed viable and running.
Although studying History of a House has always been popular it was often directed at homes of notable people and families. In recent years television exposure has stimulated interest in less prominent properties motivating a new research audience with potential discoveries.
The amount of Family History material online has also made it much easier to trace properties and research their inhabitants in the 19th and 20th century. We will review the main genealogical sources and assess their suitability for supporting house history by changing the focus from people to place.
A selection of additional geographical records will be sampled as the course and student project work develops though these may not necessarily be online. We will also aim to keep an eye on online developments of particular relevance to house history.
